About me

I'm Haley Ashburn, a high school student who loves the arts. I've taken extensive classes in art (Art 1, Art 2, Art 3, Art 4, AP Art) and design (Design 1, Design 2, Design 3, Design 4, Independent design study) and have taken some in photography (Photo 1). I am planning on going to art school and pursuing a career in the arts, preferably one in design. My work has a wide range of mediums and I like to explore with my art and try new things which I haven't before.

My art is inspired by my thought processes. I always have weird ones and come up with surreal ideas. I want my art to have layers of understanding and realization that the viewers will go through to understand it. I always include layers to my artworks, whether it be in meaning, surrealism, negative space, or hidden images. My art is always pushing my own limits and I want it to be something people haven’t seen before.

I think my art has progressed in that I have become a lot more confident with my work. I am no longer as afraid to make mistakes and I don’t take hours working on pieces to make them perfect, but instead run with my ideas and create interesting pieces. Even my pieces which don’t look realistic are always intriguing because I have taken new risks with them.

I do art to stop and make people think, but I never take it too seriously. It’s always been my goal to hold people up a moment, or let them explore the ideas I’ve put onto the paper. I want to make people think but it doesn’t always need to be a challenge. I’ve personally always thought art is sometimes too cynical, and makes people feel uncomfortable and unnerved. I don’t want to make people feel negative emotions but rather positive ones, such as intrigue and curiosity. I want my audience to feel happy with my work.
